1. HOTEL NERUDA EXPRESS.

FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL NERUDA EXPRESS

There are 3 ways to go from Santiago Airport to the Hotel.
 
a. By Taxi, the price should be around 20.000 CLP (arrange the fare with the taxi driver in advance).
 
b. By Bus, there are buses from the airport to the Metro (cost: 2000 CLP) every 30 min. If you are going by bus, you should get off the bus at METRO ESTACION PAJARITOS. Then take the Metro to EL GOLF station (METRO STOPS WORKING AT 22:30).
 
c. By Transfer. This is a SUV that is shared with some other people. They will drive you from the airport to the Hotel. Cost: 6000 CLP. This should be arranged within the airport. There are two companies that offer this service: TRANSVIP and TURBUS. Overall this is the easiest way to get from the airport to the hotel.

From the Hotel Neruda Express to University.

From the Hotel walk to EL GOLF metro station. Take the metro at EL GOLF station in direction to SAN PABLO. At BAQUEDANO station you should change to LINEA 5 (also called LINEA VERDE or green line). Then take the metro in direction to VICENTE VALDES and get off at SAN JOAQUIN metro station.

Depending on the time of the day (peak hours: from 7am to 9:30am & from 5:30pm to 9pm) some of the trains of the Linea 5 stop only every other station. They have a RED or a green light to indicate the stations they stop at. The San Joaquin metro station is a RED station.
 
Dinner.
 
In order to have dinner next to the hotel there are several places you can go. For example at the street EL BOSQUE NORTE there are plenty of restaurants. Also at ISIDORA GOYENECHEA street you can find several restaurants. In general if you get out of the Hotel walk through el Vecinal street and cross Avenida Apoquindo you will arrive into an area with a full variety of restaurants to choose from.

From Hotel Gen to University
 
From the Hotel walk to Santa Isabel street and then walk up to the metro station SANTA ISABEL (which is located at the intersection of Santa Isabel with General Bustamante). Take the metro at SANTA ISABEL station in direction to VICENTE VALDES and get off at SAN JOAQUIN metro station.

Dinner

In order to have dinner next to the hotel there are several places you can go. Barrio Lastarria has several restaurants and bars. In order to get there you have to walk 4 blocks north on Avenida Portugal until Alameda Bernardo O´ Higgins and the cross that street. Another option is to go to Barrio Italia which also has a good variety of restaurants to choose from. In order to get there you have to walk one block down on Avenida Portugal, then about 3 blocks east on Avenida Santa Isabel until Avenida Italia or parque Bustamante.

 
3. THE VENUE.

The conference will be held at the Audotorio Niroslav Bralic at the Facultad de Matematica of Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile. This is located at the Campus San Joaquin of the University. Note that there are several campus spread over Santiago.

Campus San Joaquin is located in front of the SAN JOAQUIN Metro Station of the LINEA 5 of the metro.

 The conference room has a blackboard and all the necessary equipment to give computer talks.
 
 4. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
 

In order to take a bus in Santiago you need a card, the so called "BIP" card. It can be purchased at any metro station at a cost of 2000 CLP. You need to charge it with certain amount of money and then use it to pay your fare. The cost of the bus ticket is more or less: 600 CLP.

 If you want to use the Metro then you can either buy the tickets at any metro station or use the BIP card. The cost of a metro ticket is about: 670 CLP (it depends on the time of the day).

(Note that university is located in the green line also called "linea 5", the station is called "San Joaquin". We stress that it is NOT located at METRO UNIVERSIDAD CATOLICA".) 
 
 
5. GENERALITIES
 

You might need to travel with health insurance because the public system is not very good and the private one is expensive.

There are ATM machines all over the city, in particular there are two of such machines on campus.
